Excellent “Summary” of Season 12, Episode 2! Indeed this was a _great_ episode-especially because the first two episodes are obviously the foundation episodes of the remaining 10 episodes.
When Elizabeth told the students their field trip would be to go where they needed to be, I immediately thought of KC & the fun the WCTH & TWH cast members joked about using their respective ponds to time travel to each other's show because the pond in TWH takes you were you need to go.
I also enjoyed the episode more each time I watched it this week. I completely understand Lee's reaction to all the changes to the original plan that brought him to CC. He has seen how things went wrong before. I also understand Lucas wanting to pull back & reevaluate based on new information. Neither of them have all the facts & Edwin is an opportunist who'd rather keep them in the dark & then ride in to save the day with some miracle solution. But Lee is absolutely right about the fact that at the end of the day, Lucas is only as good as his word. So he's going to have to find the best path through this mess for everyone, not just his political reputation.
As for Nathan & Elizabeth, I like seeing them do life together. We've said all along they didn't need big moments all the time to be romantic & this episode proved it. They worked flirtation into little everyday moments. And they each had wins that they could share with the other.
And Oliver has a piece of my heart. He is trying so hard to do well & earn trust & respect. So far, I'm as impressed as Nathan is with his efforts.
I'm eager to see where the stories go next for all these characters.
Thank you so much for your words. As usual, you have brought out connections I missed. However, I had caught the beauty of this episode. It was the "new normal" talked about in S11: living everyday life together in the Hope Valley way.
The part of the episode that I didn't like as much was the Lucas and Lee argument. I understand the issues, etc. But my question is, how is Lee unaware of how his land was being used and how did the land become good for cattle when it was described as prime timberland in S11E1? The land was his until about 7 months ago. Furthermore, is this another facet about the land that Edwin "forgot" to let Lucas know about (in Season 11 Edwin hadn't relayed to Lucas that Lee's land was partially within Benson Hills' borders)? Why didn't Lucas start by telling Lee about the possible impacts on the economy of Hope Valley? As mayor and a business owner, Lee should be invested in finding a solution so his town and businesses don't fail along with the ranches. I think Lee was missing his family and home and didn't allow Lucas to fully explain. Needless to say, I'm on Lucas's side in this matter, and I think if he understands the issue, Lee will be, too.
I loved this episode as much as the first one. It’s beginning to show the weaving of all the storylines together. Love the way Lee called Lucas out for not keeping his word.
Oliver is smarter and has more on the ball than Hargreaves seems to think. I didn’t like him referred to as a stray like Scout and after he said it he looked at Elizabeth?????
Cannot wait for the next episode and to read your thoughts about it
When Hargraves made the comment about the strays I think he was including Elizabeth. Also I wish Elizabeth would have told him that no one was trying to replace Jack….since Nathan wasn’t allowed to say a word.
I love this so much! You've put into words many of my thoughts and given me new thoughts to ponder. I really loved this episode too. It's so them and highlights just who they are to each other and everyone else too.
